Welcome

I don’t want to have another friend. I don’t want to wonder how your life has been…

You ever said that out loud? What about under your breath? Better yet, have you ever thought it about a friend? I have been uttering things like that, both silently and audibly quite often lately. It seems like I’ve got a gaggle of pals that can’t enjoy anything but strife, chaos, and general discord. It’s like we can’t seem to sync up, or that I’m being pushed into making a choice between finding a new pal or embracing the calamity-addicted old pal.

Talk about a false choice… Who wants to choose between a pal that would rather be unhappy than happy, and forging a new relationship with someone else? When you’re a loyalty driven person, that’s an impossible choice to consider. So, if loyalty is called into question, we must default to truth first and foremost.

John Fullbright – “Happy”

Every time I try to write a song,
It always seems to start where we left off.
Tonight I’d rather stand up straight,
Look it in the eye and won’t you
Tell me what’s so bad about happy.

I don’t want to have another friend.
And I don’t want to wonder how your life has been.
I just want to set things straight, apologize to you.
Somebody tell me what’s so bad about happy?

Tell me, where’s it go
When the wind don’t know
Where it oughta blow.
Tell me, what’s in store
For the mind and the body
(want more more more)

Tell me, where’s it go
When the wind don’t know
Where it oughta blow.
Tell me, what’s in store
For the mind and the body
(want more more more)

Every time I try to write a song,
I can’t seem to get a word in twice.
Tonight I’d rather think of you
And try to close my eyes
And I’ll just wonder
What’s so bad about happy?
Somebody, tell me what’s so bad about happy?

Listen, don’t for one minute take the posture that it’s somehow easy or posh for me to bust somebody over not being happy enough. I know all too well how life can crush your spirit. I do. I also know that forgiveness is well within our power. We’re commanded to love. In an age where suicides in our youth are climbing, we need a firm grasp on Him. The longer we toil under the idea that we can do nothing except wander through the cosmos and die, the longer we’re going to behave as if nothing matters. …And when you believe nothing matters, subconsciously or not, you’re not going to be happy.

I’m beginning to question if these folks are even cognizant of this presence in their lives. Frankly, they’re addicted to chaos. They seem to be drawn to it, and each day they seem to survive it, thus it becomes normal for them. That new normal is a really lousy way to live. They need something to live for besides the silly idea that surviving the day was enough.

He can offer you joy. He can help you make sense of the world. He’s the reason you live. He’s the reason you wake up. He’s the reason you die. He’s the choice you can make for your afterlife. He’s happiness. Choose Him.

Romans 15:13 – Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Be salt and seek light my friends. I pray this for you.
