Welcome

After this tragedy, we must pause for prayer.

It doesn’t matter what the tragedy is, we often pause to pray.  Do we not?  Do you ever wonder why that is?

I don’t mean to be snarky, but why do we stop after we screw something up and then ask an all powerful Lord to straighten it out?  I’m not suggesting we discount prayer.  We’re told to pray and we’re compelled to pray.  Putting forth the idea that we pray after the fact implies we should have been praying before that tragedy.  Doesn’t that seem logical?

What is it you pray for?  Do you pray for health or good fortune or blessings to come?  I do.  But do you thank Him for another day in the place He built for you?

I get a ration of trash from my atheist friends and many liberal buddies when I respond to a lousy current event with prayer.  That doesn’t bother me.  What gets under my skin and makes me think is when they tease me about why I didn’t pray to get ahead of any given tragedy.  Admittedly, sometime they catch me off-guard there.  Or at least they used to.  Not any more.

Give that some thought.  Don’t fall into the trap of always asking God for things only.  You should be thanking Him as well.  And if you can’t find something to thank Him for, you better pray on that, because He made you.
